Tonight’s UFC 116 event was very action packed from top to bottom as it went from start to finish with some very exciting finishing moments as the organization handed bonuses of $75,000 for the fighters who earned it for their extra efforts.
At the UFC 116 post-fight press conference UFC President Dana White handed out bonuses to six participants rather than the usual four as two “Fight of the Nights” went down in Las Vegas.
“Fight of the Night” number 1 went to Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski as their rematch was just as eventful as their first encounter this past August at UFC 110, but this time it was ‘The American Psycho” who won the rematch from ‘The Polish Experiment’ as Bonnar was able to do the finishing of this fight rather then being stopped by the doctors for a bad cut atop the head.
The “Fight of the Night” 1A went to middleweights Chris Leben and Yoshihiro Akiyama as the fight which started off in “Sexyama’s” favor slowly began to give momentum to ‘The Crippler’ as he was able to unload on his heavy handed left hook and more as he was able to get the fight ending triangle choke for the submission victory along with the extra cash.
“KO of the Night” honors went to Gerald Harris as he was able to catch newcomer Dave Branch from his flying guard to drop him down hard Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs Ricardo Arona style as the ‘Hurricane’ wins his third straight bonus in that fashion in his third UFC fight.
Last, but not least undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar earns himself the improbable “Submission of the Night” award as he was able to comeback from an almost fight ending punching barrage from Shane Carwin to end the main event with a well placed arm triangle for the choke and the win to make his successful return to the Octagon after a year long lay-off to still go home as the champion.
