‘Chiquerim’ Freire had to withdraw from his bout with fellow
lightweight Thiago Tavares due to injury for the upcoming UFC on Versus
2 event from San Diego, California and it now appears that since the
organization could not get a replacement for Freire that Tavares has
now also been yanked from the August 1 fight card as well.
According to
MMAJunkie.coma source close to Thiago Tavares has confirmed that he has been pulled
off the Versus card and will be placed in a fight card in the near
future.
Tavares who has fought at least once each of the last few years has
been forced out of fights due to injuries for the most part and now
with no opponent will have to wait longer to fight once again. Tavares
was originally scheduled to face Melvin Guillard this past May at UFC
114, but an injury to his elbow also took him off that fight card as
well.
UFC on Versus 2 will be held at the San Diego Sports Arena on August
1, and the fight card will now officially be reduced to 10 fights
instead of the usual 11 bouts.
